I oppose bill 5. I want stronger environmental protections and the protection of endangered species. I oppose shortcuts for industry. I oppose overriding the law in special economic zones.
A species conservation and protection policy is very much in need of updating and must include input from indigenous communities in collaboration the general public. Any policy must recognize and act to support our ecosystems diversity as it is imperative to
a sustainable and viable future.

I strongly oppose Bill 5 and the proposed repeal of Ontario’s Endangered Species Act. This change would significantly weaken protections for over 270 species at risk and the habitats they depend on.

The language and intent of these proposed changes seems clear. The government, a group of people who are not experts about the conservation of endangered and at risk species, seeks to remove encumbrances to “economic growth “. Once again, human stupidity and greed contributing to human demise.

I oppose Bill 5 to scrap the Endangered Species Act. These vulnerable ecosystems need protecting or we will not have anything left. It's development that have put species at risk in the first place. Eliminating the last line of defense would be catastrophic.
Bill 5 is a direct attack on endangered species or species at risk, clean and healthy communities, clean energy and the rights of Indigenous people. This bill would be a disaster on so many levels.
I am a consultant biologist and resident of Ontario. I help guide my clients through the ESA processes. While I agree the legislation is time consuming and can be expensive (in the case of an overall benefit), I feel as though repealing the Act is not the way forward.

I strongly oppose the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and the creation of the Species Conservation Act (SCA), 2025, as outlined in ERO 025-0380. These changes would significantly weaken protections for species at risk in Ontario and prioritize development over conservation.

The Canadian Herpetological Society strongly opposes the proposed Bill 5, Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act, 2025. If approved, this legislation would reduce protection for species at risk, increase the loss of habitat for imperiled species, and hamper their recovery.

This is foolishly nearsighted and comes off as the government not realizing the importance of the natural resources that are so significant in Ontario.

These changes are a huge step backwards for environmental policy in Ontario. The proposal to remove provincial mandates for assessment and recovery of at risk species, citing redundancy with federal efforts, simply does not make sense.

I support strengthening Ontario’s economy; however as an environmental scientist I know that planning based on ecological principles is essential. Bill 5 is an unnecessary overreach and I ask that you:

I urge you to reject Bill 5
The bill doesn’t respect Indigenous rights
It’s a direct attack on endangered species in Ontario. It’s weakened environmental policies will further enhance climate crisis destruction
This does not secure a livable future for Ontarians.
