This is incredibly disappointing. What happened to Truth and Reconciliation efforts? Archaeological surveys are critical to our understanding of Canada’s history, respecting Indigenous land and restoring Canadian history. Shame.

This amendment will effectively destroy the Ontario's heritage properties, losing valuable historic buildings and sites that represent Canada's history and identity. I am completely opposed to this proposal.

These proposed amendments are too vague in their language, leaving for the potential for misuse by government parties in power and third parties, particularly in regards to the exemption of properties from archaeological assessments, and for authorities to establish criteria for land exemptions. Regulations to protect the environment and Indigenous land are there for a reason. When planning projects in sensitive land, the government and proponents need to do their due diligence to ensure undue harm is not done. Read more
