The Ontario Heritage Act has been a favourite target of the Government. In this round of amendments, the Government is proposing exempting properties from requirements in Part VI of the Act. The proposed change would obviate the need to undertake archaeological assessment. Read more

In its current form Bill 5 will enable the destruction of Indigenous and Settler heritage. Archaeological requirements are not red tape. Good archaeology does not have to cause delays and should be viewed as an asset to any project. Read more

I object to the passage of this bill. I object to creating Special Economic Zones which would be exempt from existing provincial and municipal laws, including the Ontario Heritage Act and the Endangered Species Act. This could lead to unchecked development and destruction of vital habitats. Read more
