I am opposed to the passage of Bill 5 as I feel it gives too much power to government, developers and corporations, while removing safeguards which are there to protect the public. It was rushed through without sufficient public education, input and debate.

These policies were put into place to protect the indigenous lands and people and removing it will simply be going backwards. These communities deserve respect despite the “cost” it has on the government.

I do not support changing the Ontario Heritage Act to allow the Province to ignore its own rules. Archaeological Assessment requirements have been in place since the OHA was first passed in 1975. Many important sites, including burials, have been discovered and protected in the last 75 years. Read more
