Consolidating the CAs will make careless development without consideration of SAR habitat, management activities, or flooding risks easier. This degrades local input into land use and puts both people and wildlife at risk.

I am a resident of Dundas, Ontario, located in Hamilton. I am very concerned with this proposal and oppose it. I agree with HCA’s submission to the ERO. I am concerned about losing local decision-making and I support keeping conservation decisions rooted in our community.

It is important that the Province look to modernize the way conservation authorities exist and operate. However, the Province must do so in a meaningful way, that considers expert advice and input from those who work for, operate, and use these conservation authorities and conservation areas. I am against combining the Lake Superior and Lake Huron conservation authorities. These are two vastly different lakes. Weather patterns, lake temperatures, migration patterns, and human footprints are all so different. Read more

I don’t remember a time when the conservatives were interested in the environment. Maybe a one size fits all doesn’t work for each authority. The authorities should be consulted. Of course, this would take time. There is no need to rush through your agenda. Read more

I am firmly opposed to the proposal to merge Ontario’s 36 conservation authorities into seven regional bodies. This plan will significantly weaken environmental protection, eliminate local oversight, and reduce the accountability Ontarians rely on to keep our communities safe. Read more
