With this submission I am expressing my strong opposition to the proposed amalgamation of the 36 Conservation Authorities currently in place in Ontario. The current system allows for local knowledge to be used to protect crucial natural areas and hazard lands. Read more

We are against any effort to amalgamate conservation authorities. Especially at this time of climate change with the threat of flooding, fires, and other natural disasters, we need our conservation authorities to be local to our communities where they can quickly respond to these challenges. Amalgamating local Conservation Authorities, based on the watersheds involved, and adding another layer of bureaucracy on top is just adding senseless cost to a system that serves the communities well as it is. Read more

I am firmly opposed to the proposal to merge Ontario’s 36 conservation authorities into seven regional bodies. This plan will significantly weaken environmental protection, eliminate local oversight, and reduce the accountability Ontarians rely on to keep our communities safe. Read more

This is crazy!! The system we have gives VERY effective oversight, needed more than ever, given the weather extremes we are now facing due to climate change ...which will only get worse. Relax those rules, build in the floodplain... Read more

Please do not move forward with amalgamation. More research is necessary to determine if the goal of improving "front line delivery of services " is rendered impossible by eliminating participation of local people, the holders of historical context which is necessary for board room decision making. I cannot believe that the government of Ontario is proposing that I should be within the Lake Erie Regional Conservation Authority. The proposed area is vast and covers an enormous range of ecologically diverse areas. Read more

I’m strongly against this proposal of change and I urge the province to reevaluate. Watershed decisions should be based on science, geography, and local hydrology, not overly large administrative boundaries. Read more
