Keep conservation decisions in the community. Provincial consolidation will weaken the voices in community conservation and just add another layer of bureaucracy. We’ve already seen what the Ford government tried to do with the Greenbelt.

I support the HCA’s position, and oppose consolidation of regional conservation areas. I have enjoyed the Hamilton conservation area for over 30 years and feel the HCA does a fantastic job maintaining those lands.

Please do not pass Bill 68, the provincial budget bill. The part related to amalgamating Ontario's conservation authorities into 7 regional organizations is a cynical attempt to ignore the current science on climate change in favour of short-term thinking. Read more

As the author of the biography of Edmund Zavitz, a critical person in the passing in 1946, of the Conservation Authorities Act, and who subsequently oversaw their evolution until his death in 1969, I have a good perspective of the reasons conservation authorities were created. Read more

I agree very strongly with HCA’s submission to the ERO. I am concerned about the cost of this unnecessary merger, losing local decision-making and I support keeping conservation decisions rooted in our community. Strong conservation depends on local relationships. Read more

I strongly agree with HCA’s submission to the ERO. I am concerned about losing local decision-making and I support keeping conservation decisions rooted in our community. The province should instead legislate consistent guidelines for all conservation authorities to follow. Read more
