The draft Strategic Policy for Bait Management in Ontario offers improvements to OMNRF’s current baitfish policy. The authors should congratulate themselves for this draft. They still need to address these and other comments to make it an outstanding policy.

Baitfish should NOT be allowed in Brook Trout Ecosystems - we continue to lose Brook Trout lakes and river systems to baitfish introductions (suckers and spiny rayed fish in particular). The same may be said for Lake Trout systems.

Main funded priority needs to further educate and raise awareness regarding angler bait collection. This should be as enjoyable as other forms of recreational species identification and differentiation to reduce/limit unwanted results.
