I think the proposed amalgamation of the Conservation Authorities in Ontario is wrong. At a time of increased pressure on natural resources, allowing the Conservation Authorities to continue as they are would be an excellent sign that the government is not just pro development and anti nature.

The centralization and amalgamation of these existing, locally informed and controlled conservation authorities is a bad idea and will not result in the cost savings and efficiencies the Ontario Government hopes for.

For over 80 years, Conservation Authorities have operated on a local watershed-based model because water and ecosystems do not follow municipal boundaries. This approach ensures that flooding, erosion, and water quality are managed where they occur — locally.

I reject this proposal to amalgamate local conservation authorities into 7 large areas.
My key concerns include:
- Reduced local representation and decision-making
- Loss of local expertise, knowledge, and responsiveness

Please keep our conversation authorities local. It is hard enough to get information and things done in the area now. Can’t imagine when the area is so big. How does from Lake Erie to Orangeville make sense.

I feel the system as is works extremely well and management of the watershed needs to continue to be under local observation and control. We have been managed for my entire lifetime by the current system and it has served us well.

Amalgamation of Conservation authorities restricts immediate action toward prevention of invasive species in specific regions. Each region addresses the immediate action required to prevent spreading and further impact. Consolidation lessens the effectiveness.

The latest Provincial Government proposal, would create the Ontario Provincial Conservation Agency OPCA – a provincial board-governed oversight body. The stated benefit of the OPCA would be to provide centralized leadership, efficient governance, and strategic direction.

This is ridiculous. It is up to local authorities to determine the needs of local issues. This is as bad as getting rid of trustees and school boards.

the proposal to amalgamate The Lakehead Regional Conservation Authority with another that is over 1000 mikes away and on a different Great Lake is absurd ! The LRCA covers a huge geographical area already and they do an outstanding job.

I am a resident of Hamilton and have have spent considerable time on the HCA trails for my whole life. I agree with HCA’s submission to the ERO. I am concerned about losing local decision-making and I support keeping conservation decisions rooted in our community.
Conservation authorities were formed to develop an integrated watershed management approach using watershed boundaries. This approach allows municipalities and the province to collaborate effectively and efficiently to manage development and the environment.

This is a horrible idea. The conservation authority must be a locally run organization. Look at why it was started in the first place: to respond to local flooding events. The local watershed is the important subject.
