Ontario should not give up vital environmental protections or give the Provincial Cabinet unlimited power. Ontarians deserve better. Canadians deserve better. Nature deserves better. Let us be a positive example to our global community. I urge you to withdraw Bill 5 immediately. Read more

The current Act is working well to protect endangered species and their habitats. The Conservative government has already found loopholes to do work in protected areas. This new proposed Act would allow them to do more damage legally. I, along with so many Ontarians, do not agree with the change. Read more

As a conservation biology student at UBC, I cannot think of a more effective way to extirpate, or kill off Ontario’s species than Schedule 2 of Bill 5. But you don’t need a biology degree to see how deeply flawed this legislation is. Read more

I am writing to strongly oppose Bill 5: the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act and its dangerous proposals, including the creation of Special Economic Zones, the weakening of Ontario’s endangered species protections, and the exemption of the Eagle’s Nest mine from an environmental review. I strongly object to the proposal to amend Ontario's Endangered Species Act, Bill 5: The amended purpose states, "to provide for the protection and conservation of species while taking into account social and economic considerations including the need for sustainable economic growth". Read more

I strongly oppose the amendments to the Endangered Species Act in Ontario. As someone who has studied ecology as well as environmental assessment, I know that what is being proposed are shortcuts for economic gain over the wellbeing of natural ecosystems which benefit us all. Read more

As a Canadian citizen, I am strongly opposed to Bill 5. I want prioritization on strengthening environmental protections (including endangered species) and oppose shortcuts for the industry with no public oversight. Lastly, I oppose overriding the law in special economic zones.

This proposal is going to gut protections for endangered species, remove environmental protections, and trample Indigenous rights. I want to focus especially on the changes to the registration and permitting system that this proposal implies: Read more

I oppose Bill 5. This Bill directly contradicts existing endangered species protections, which were already voted in place. This industry-centric shortcut is undemocratic and unconstitutional for all peoples, including indigenous peoples.
