This proposal is violating environmental protection laws. It was suspicious language that allows for contractors to violate federal environmental regulations at their own discretion. As well as it goes against federally defined habit and endangered species laws.

I think it’s disgusting that this government is choosing to put economic growth ahead of protection of our biodiversity and endangered species. I think decisions should reflect science-based findings and shouldn’t be politically motivated. Read more

I strongly oppose the proposed Species Conservation Act, 2025 (Bill 5). These amendments gut Ontario’s Endangered Species protections and put wildlife at serious risk. • The new definition of habitat is dangerously narrow, excluding feeding and migration areas. Read more

Don't narrow the definition of “habitat”. Recovery depends on future restoration zones. Bring back mandatory recovery plans! Species need long-term strategies, not short-term fixes. Reinstate the Advisory Committee. We need oversight, not silence. Read more

In the year 2025, we need to be protecting more endangered species, not removing them from protections so developments like spas can be built. Benefitting developers over the needs of the environment is atrocious, and the greed of Doug Ford sickens me. Read more

I am very concerned about this proposal which will allow harmful activities to go ahead without public review, scrutiny, or guarantees of real protection. I am VERY concerned that it allows the Minister to create broad exemptions allowing whole industries to bypass species protection altogether. Read more

I believe that this proposal will negatively affect a lot of endangered species and habitats in Ontario. I personally love the outdoors and find that Ontario’s environment is one of the things I’m most proud of from living here. Read more

I oppose putting economic growth ahead of species protection! Now more than ever we need long term recovery plans for the habitats associated with these species. Please reinstate the advisory committee, we need oversight not silence!!

These proposed changes are horrendous. We must do everything in our power to protect endanger species and ensure a healthy clean and green future for our children. So much wild space is being destroyed on a daily basis and we must protect these spaces as well as all of the species that live there. Read more

This government just wants to remove any barriers so they can just do whatever they want. It’s so important to have environmental protections and this government does not care about species at risk and the impact it can have on the environment. Read more

This bill is being falsely presented as something that will help to improve the conservation of our plants and wildlife. When in actuality, it is Doug Ford's way of trying to get rid of any provincial action for species recovery or protection. Read more

Reverse the exclusion of aquatic species migratory birds! They deserve provincial protection too and contribute to a healthy and secure ecosystem. I oppose the prioritisation of economic growth over species protection. Read more
