Allowing any one person (ie the lieutenant governor) to have the discretionary ability to decide which species do and do not go in the endangered species list for Ontario is ridiculous and illogical. It should not be a power granted to one person.

I strongly oppose the changes in this bill. Economic growth CANNOT come before the protection of species. You have no idea what ramifications are going to happen when just one species goes extinct, even if just in Ontario.

This is another example of the Ontario government under Doug Ford actively harming the future of the province, the future of our children and a sustainable Ontario. Under the guise of streamlining regulation we are actually proposing to deregulate environmental protections for species at risk.

Removing 106 species from the endangered species list is absolutely absurd. These species are all important to the ecosystem and should be protected at all cost. Once again, the Ontario government is finding quicker ways to develop land with zero concern of the environment.

I oppose putting economic growth ahead of species protection. Reverse the exclusion of aquatic species and migratory birds. They contribute to a healthy ecosystem and deserve provincial protection. Scientific finding shouldn't be politically vetoed. We need to protect evidence based conservation.
Think of your children and grandchildren, they deserve to have a province with healthy ecosystems! I oppose putting economic growth ahead of species protection. Scientific findings shouldn't be politically vetoed. Protect evidence-based conservation.

Biodiversity loss is one of the most critical issues you, as government, should be addressing.
Please remove the loopholes which undercut the conservation of endangered species in Ontario.

It can not be legal to put economic growth over protecting species when so many ecological systems are in critical danger, which is only ever increasing with mass human migration to these areas along with climate change. The science is there, this is not something to be treated lightly.

I oppose putting economic growth above species protection. Don’t narrow the definition of ‘habitat’, bring back mandatory recovery plans, reverse the exclusion of aquatic animals and migratory birds, and stop the exemption of permits from public comments. Transparency is non-negotiable.
It is unconscionable that the Ontario government is proposing these changes in the present moment when everyone understands the consequences.

Sadly this legislation is no surprise from Doug Ford’s government. He has ruined Healthcare and Education and now the Environment will be less protected too. History with be the final judge of this populist, greedy, money-comes-first, no-values government. Our children are watching.

Regressing is not a part of nature, as time immortal has proven. When we change the laws without the consideration of the massive impacts they are going to have, we are pushing ourselves closer to absolute imbalance. Bill 5 needs to be revoked and reconsidered for the future of all Canadians.
These changes to the Endangered Species Act are significantly worse for animals, ecosystems and us in Ontario who enjoy time outside and the health benefits of being in nature.
- I oppose putting economic growth ahead of species protection.
