In general I do not support the amalgamation of Ontario’s Conservation Authorities or the creation of an agency to oversee the amalgamation as the plan currently stands.

Merging conservation authorities had not been thought out or planned well enough. This will cause detrimental loss of local knowledge and oversight from conservation authorities.
I oppose the provincial plan to amalgamate Ontario’s 36 conservation authorities into seven regional bodies. Reports from across the province show that this restructuring threatens to weaken, not strengthen, environmental protection.

There is no good reason for this proposal. Water and waterways are crucial to our safety and our environment. Therefore, they should be managed at a local level. In no way should the waterways of Sarnia be lumped in with the Grand River and its environs.

We need to leave conservation at the local/regional level. Please do not consolidate the conservation authorities. Local knowledge of community needs, watersheds and natural areas is a fundamental requirement for healthy communities and healthy environments.
This is an unnecessary change that does not benefit the public of Ontario. Stop treating public goods and the environment as profit driven entities and look to bolster and invest in them.

It is so crucial we have our conservation areas. People need to be able to have a safe and accessible space to explore and connect to nature. Without having this, we will lose our connection and desire to care for the planet that provides us our lives.
This proposal is irresponsible to say the least. Making the regions that large is detrimental in every way. We've seen the devastating effects of politicians creating too much bureaucracy that's distanced from the actual communities they serve.

I don't want to see my local conservation authority in Sault Ste Marie consolidated. It's guaranteed it will result in a reduction of local service. I own a construction company and regularly pull permits with the local authority. They're great, they understand the region and the people.
