This Bill gives the green light to begin possible destruction of habitat and other harmful acts to the proposed environments with little to no oversight. A simple registration form before they can begin development is less than what the average home owner needs for basic home renovations.

I am opposed to this proposal. As a biology professor, I am committed to protecting the environment and sidestepping protections like this is not appropriate.

In spite of the positive-looking spin that is put on this proposed legislation (Bill 5), it is obvious that the Ford government is continuing to whittle away at endangered species and their habitat.

The existing habitat definition and protections of the Endangered Species Act should be retained. They provide a clear approach to conserving Ontario’s most at-risk birds, and any issues of delays or lack of clarity can be dealt with through improvements in process.
