The “red tape” that so distresses the framers of this bill exists for a reason. The environmental protections exist for a reason. Businesses will not respect the environment or the people who live in it unless they are forced to. This has been proven time and time again.

This Act is far too vague. Environmental protections are more important than development. The government should not be given the power to assign these special economic zones. We do not need a sped-up process. Do not approve the Special Economic Zones Act!
This proposed legislation is an assault on the legal and democratic rights of Ontarians, especiallyof the Indigenous peoples. This proposal will result in decades of costly litigation, environmental degradation and health and social harms to the people directly affected.

I do not want these changes made to provincial legislation. I do not see the Provincial Government taking any steps to properly consult, much less obtain informed consent from, the Indigenous nations on this Bill and its probable consequences for one thing.
