The “red tape” that so distresses the framers of this bill exists for a reason. The environmental protections exist for a reason. Businesses will not respect the environment or the people who live in it unless they are forced to. This has been proven time and time again. Lire davantage

This proposal is un-democratic! It should not be allowed to pass, and should never have been proposed. If passed, this would set the stage for unprecedented government corruption where there is bias to favor locations, projects and proponents. Lire davantage

This Act is far too vague. Environmental protections are more important than development. The government should not be given the power to assign these special economic zones. We do not need a sped-up process. Do not approve the Special Economic Zones Act!

This proposed legislation is an assault on the legal and democratic rights of Ontarians, especiallyof the Indigenous peoples. This proposal will result in decades of costly litigation, environmental degradation and health and social harms to the people directly affected. Lire davantage

I'm very concerned that this bill allows development decisions that permanently affect people's lives and polute land without democratic process. The motive for this bill seems to be to allow a trampling of rights to benefit a few while ignoring local concerns. Lire davantage

I stand in opposition to this bill. The bill waters down rules that protect endangered species and natural heritage sites, maintain oversight of mining activities, require respect for constitutionally guaranteed Indigenous Rights and mandate environmental assessments and protections. At a critical time of the climate crisis with every year being the "hottest on record" and forest fires are destroying communities, we should not be streamlining development without considering the impacts on the environment. Lire davantage

Bill 5 reduces indigenous input, environmental protection, species protection, pollution controls, corporate responsibility and puts the onus on taxpayers for the cost of cleanups. All to put speed to market ahead of our livelihood and safety. Lire davantage

I do not want these changes made to provincial legislation. I do not see the Provincial Government taking any steps to properly consult, much less obtain informed consent from, the Indigenous nations on this Bill and its probable consequences for one thing. Lire davantage
