I support this proposal. I am a licensed falconer who has not been successful in the lottery in the past. I currently have 3 captive bred birds. I would be very glad to see the lottery gone and know that I would have the ability to trap, hunt with, and later release a wild bird. Lire davantage

Falconers have played an important role in raptor conservation and by allowing more falconers to have access to wild birds, the MNRF is encouraging more active conservation and citizen science. Lire davantage

My name is Timothy Wilkinson, I have grown up in Ontario my whole life. I grew up in a family where guns and hunting was not seen as a respectable sport. In my early 20’s on my own accord, me and a few friends got our hunting/ gun licence and started hunting. Lire davantage

As a wildlife biologist and a professional with over 15 years experience training and caring for native raptors in an educational setting, I strongly oppose this proposal just as I opposed the original legislation that introduced the draw for wild take of raptors in Ontario. Lire davantage

As falconry is considered an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO I fully support this proposal as using wild raptors for falconry is not a new concept it is age-old and has been done all over North America without any negative effect to raptor populations.

I support this proposal to take birds from the wild for hunting purposes, more specifically the goshawk. It will not have a negative impact on the wild bird population.

I agree with this proposal, as there is an abundance of raptors in the wild. If falconers are able to use them for hunting purposes only, I support them.

Expanding the wild take program will allow more licensed apprentices the chance to trap a more suitable bird and also helps the the young raptors to make it through their first year. I support this proposal.

I support the proposal. I am an apprentice falconer. Eliminating the draw is a huge improvement. I can be a better falconer if I can take a bird from the wild and have it teach me as I care for it. Lire davantage

My mother is a licensed falconer and she hasn’t been drawn for the wild take lottery for a few years. I can’t think of anyone more deserving than she when it comes to having success with the draw; she’s a huge conservationist and naturalist and always put her birds first. Lire davantage

I am a hopeful falconry apprentice. These changes would greatly help my dreams come true. It has also been shown that hawks get a better chance at surviving if they are captured as passage hawks and cared for. Please make these changes. Lire davantage

This doesn’t make sense. It does nothing for the birds and only benefits the falconers. They have access to captive bred birds so there is absolutely no reason for them to take wild birds. Especially Northern Goshawks which are not so abundant. I just do not see the reason for it.

I believe that the capture of Northern Goshawks should not be done during the breeding season, as taking a parent that is raising its young will negatively affect the population of the species. In addition, the population of Northern Goshawks is significantly smaller than other raptors in Ontario. Lire davantage
