Environmental protection is critical to be left in the hands of local authorities who know their communities. Please reconsider the path this government is taking to reduce local control and democracy.

Conservation Authorities (CAs) play a key role in protecting Ontario from flooding, protecting the environment, protecting our drinking water, advancing science, restoring habitat and educating the public. They work with their local municipalities and with minimal funding to get this done. Read more

I strongly disagree with the plan to amalgamate the conservation authorities. The Niagara region must be allowed to keep their own. You cannot have oversight of such large areas and keep things fair and unique to the area. We need to keep our sovereignty, if not only bad things will happen. Read more

Local knowledge of soils, drainage, flood risk and land use is critical to safe and sustainable development and conservation activities. This could also help conserve along sustainable vegetation and wild life due to years of experience, expertise and know-how.

I want the smaller conservation authorities left in place. I believe local knowledge is best for the environment. Who wants this change? Developers? Why not align the administrative process to be the same for all 36? Read more

I have lived in Niagara for nearly all of my life, and I do not support our conservation authority being amalgamated with areas of the GTA. It may reduce administrative costs, but with such a large area to oversee, my concern is that it will also lead to administrative oversight. Read more

This will result in small rural municipalities paying for Toronto bureaucrats to tell them what to do. This will result in more middle management, more costs, slower processing times, and worse outcomes. Read more

Consolidating Ontario’s conservation authorities is shortsighted and wrong. It will lead to worse outcomes for our environment for flooding and for the health of ecosystems that we leave behind for our children.

I am writing to express my disagreement with the Proposal to amalgamate the province's Conservation Authorities. In general this is simply an administrative lever to further reduce the effectiveness of the CA's and promote reduced oversight of development. Read more

This proposal does not consider Mother Earth respectfully or responsibly. Conservation areas are unique and there are many concerns and considerations that will not be addressed if this proposal goes through.
