This proposal, to merge the existing conservation authorities in this province into seven "super-authorities" is a dangerous move and another thinly veiled attempt at this provincial government to turn more land over to developers under the guise of "building more homes" to solve the housing crisis. I understand and respect the government’s intent to improve efficiency and accelerate permitting in support of housing development. However, I am not convinced that the proposed structural changes will achieve those aims. Read more

As evident in North Bay from the news for several years the conservation authority was full of problems. Rolling it up into a larger authority must fix all the issues. Build it without any wokeness or DEI too. Make it less restrictive yet effective. Read more

This seems like too few conservation authorities and a loss of autonomy for regions. If some regions want to amalgamate, then it should be their choice. I assume this part of the plan to make sure that developers can accumulate more money by paving over forests and filling in wetlands.

This is another way around the Ontario government getting their hands on lands that are desginated Greenlands to satisfy their Developement friends. I do not approve of this reallocation of conservation areas. Read more

I am writing to oppose the proposed changes to merge conservation authorities in Ontario. Changing from a watershed based governance system to protect these unique ecosystems and water sources would be a mistake and put communities at risk of environmental degradation and flooding. Read more

I do not support the amalgamation of conservation authorities as outlined in the proposal. It has not been sufficiently explained how this will achieve greater consistency and transparency or how this will deliver faster services. No evidence based solutions are provided for these issues. I am opposed to this amalgamation. The area proposed for NE ontario is way too large for any real advocacy or protection to be useful. We have sensitive environments and water sheds that need local protection, and not lumped together to be ignored. Read more

KEEP CONSERVATION LOCAL - Local staff and office understand the land, the people and the issues. Decisions that are made HOURS and 100s of KMs away do not reflect the unique needs of each watershed. Local expertise matters for safety, environmental protection and community protection. Read more

This is an entirely unnecessary overreach of the Ontario government, yet again. We don't need to centralized control of conservation authorities so ford can push through shortsighted housing projects at the expense of nature and continue to line his friends (and his own) pockets. Read more
