This is outrageous! At a time when we need to protect nature and encourage biodiversity, our government looks to gut it just like our public services. Indigenous people’s knowledge of the land is imperative if we are going to have any chance at health and survival on this planet.

Heck no. Giving the government unilateral ability to remove animals from endangered species lists without being informed by SCIENCE is absurd. Secondly, removing "harass" from species protections is a recipe for danger.

As a biologist with experience working in both the not-for-profit and public sectors, I am concerned that the proposed legislation completely changes the intent of the current act. It significantly cuts supports for species at risk. Below are my specific concerns with the proposed changes.

It is wild to me that in 2025 I even have to submit a comment outlining my anger at such a proposal. But then again, not surprised by this government choosing this approach rather than innovation.

Having the government make decisions about which animals should be removed from the endangered species list is outrageous. You're not qualified to make that decision. Saying that you'll consult with indigenous groups is a farce. If they were consulted they would be vehemently against this act.
The environmental protections should be increased not weakened. We can not reverse the destruction of the ecosystem for short tem finantial gains. Moreover this will also disproportionally harm future generations.

The Ontario government’s recent rollbacks on environmental protections are already showing consequences. Just look at what’s happening in the city: coyotes are appearing in neighborhoods, schoolyards, and parks. Why?

I oppose this proposed legislation. It would allow developers to kill endangered species or destroy their habitats without any consultation with Indigenous people or locals, simply by telling the government that they plan to do it by registering.

These proposed changes are wildly reckless and have the potential to be devastating to endangered species and our environment as a whole. This must stop.
I strongly oppose reducing environmental protections for species at risk and significant ecosystems. Ontario is full of beautiful wilderness that deserves to be protected and has inherant value.

Ontario prides itself on being a cornerstone of biodiversity and conservation efforts. Doing this will significantly reduce the protection of native species, and will make the situation with introduced and invasive species far worse.

this process should remain the same, there is no reason to speed a process for profit, that will only harm wildlife and the land! all animal species should be protected on Indigenous lands
Pretty sure that wasn't on the docket when he released his mandate and pushed for election. The people DID NOT vote for this. This is bad policy and will result in the decimated of the province, like NB... and look what happened to Higgs.
The repeal of the Endangered Species Act (ESA) in Ontario represents a catastrophic step backward for environmental protection, biodiversity, and science-based policymaking.

What is the definition of Species at Risk. The mission of all of us to to protect the habitat for all species at risk. Who knows the tipping point for these species where their extinction cannot be prevented. Adding economics, social concerns only muddies the water distracting the mission.
