It is going to be very inconvenient for us anglers near Wawa that will be fishing with bait on both sides of the BMZ line. I can imagine that it will be a very difficult law to enforce. Lire davantage

On behalf of the Sault Naturalists, I am submitting comments regarding the draft policy for the management of bait (baitfish & leeches) in Ontario. Lire davantage

If the risk of the spread of invasive species is greatest from the bait management zones in the southern portion of the Province, perhaps requiring anglers that reside in those areas of the Province to provide proof that the baitfish they are in possession of has been purchased from a local bait Lire davantage

I do not in any way support myself or any other angler not being able to catch bait from Lake Erie and transporting it over land to fish with it on the Detroit River. Why is this going to harm anything whether the bait contains invasive species or not? Lire davantage

My father takes me to catch bait on the shoreline of Lake Erie and then we transport it overland to the Detroit River so we can fish for yellow perch. This harms nothing will never harm anything and it should not be illegal. Very stupid! Lire davantage

This policy is so characteristic of MNRF and other government agencies trying to keep everyone satisfied by implementing a complicated bureaucracy relying on compliance by people who don't care. Lire davantage

Please do not restrict the species which can be used for live bait - the existing rules are sufficient and effective. Also please consider allowing the use of cut bait from any species, so long as it is dead. Lire davantage

Reading the proposal all waterway Provincial Parks would have live bait banned - although it does appear that worms are not covered under the ban? Minnows and leaches are specifically mentioned but not worms. Every year we make a pilgrimage up to Missinaibi Provincial Park to fish Walleye. Lire davantage

Re: ERB # 012-9791 I live on long lake and am very confused with proposal to stop bail fish on part of the lake Makes no sense as many creeks run into this lake that carry bait fish. Long lake also runs into the Blanche Lire davantage

I am not in favour of restricting the use of live bait or restricting where the bait can be harvested. Instead, I believe the focus should be on education and conservation. In many cases it is not practical to harvest live bait in the same lake as it will be used in. Lire davantage

Self caught minnows are one of the ways I fish for food here in Armstrong Station area. There are no bait shops in area closer than THUNDER BAY. This is a 6 hour round trip so I would not want to kill minnows after 2 weeks. I use an aerator to keep them alive whether I catch them or buy them. Lire davantage

The ministry should let the northerner's make their own decisions. People in the south have no business making decisions for the north. The proposal for banning live bait on half of Long Lake is ridiculous. Minnows can swim. [Original Comment ID: 209598]

I feel this is unfair for us local anglers. Bad enough your banning live bait but frozen bait as well, I don't see the impact if the bait is already dead. I do not agree with this action at all. [Original Comment ID: 209613]

I am part of a large group of anglers and hunters in northern Ontario who are fed up with this governments money grab schemes. Fishing and hunting is not only part of our culture but a big part of who we are. There are only 2 rules we need for baitfish management and both are common sense. Lire davantage

We live in Northern Ontario. We like to trap our own minnows for our own use. We feel that the proposals on baitfish is to restrictive. We feel it should stay the way it is. We don't need to also have a licence to trap our own bait. Lire davantage

The proposed bait fish regulations will cause significant problems with compliuance and enforcement in the southeastern portion of Fisheries Management Zone 15 (Bait management Zone E). The lakes in this area are interconnected and comprise an intergrated ecosystem. Lire davantage
