I am very glad to see goshawks included in a wild take for falconry, they are a very important species that is difficult to obtain elsewhere.

My immediate thought is a big no! It's time the MNR starts thinking differently in regard to birds and especially raptors. Lire davantage

Eliminating the draw is an improvement in the process. It enables all apprentice falconers to be able to trap their first bird of prey. Lire davantage

This proposal would be a very positive and sustainable step forward in falconry. Trapping and working with wild birds is an excellent way to encourage more engagement in the conservation and understanding of those species. Lire davantage

I greatly support this proposal as it would allow more falconers to have access to wild birds and falconers play an important role in raptor conservation. Lire davantage

A friend of mine is a falconer and I'm learning so much about raptors through her. It's clear that falconers have played an important role in raptor conservation and by allowing more falconers to have access to wild birds, the MNRF will be encouraging more active conservation and citizen science.

I have a friend who is a falconer and I think that raising the limit from 25/year to 200/year (one per falconer) seems very reasonable given the large populations of those species. Also the falconers really enjoy it!

My sister is an active falconer in Ontario. She began falconry in the United States where taking a bird from the wild has been long instated. Lire davantage

As an apprentice who hasn’t been successful in the wild-take lottery, it will be a great opportunity to trap a wild RT with my sponsor if this proposal is passed. Thank you for allowing more of us the chance to become skilled falconers with a wild caught bird.

I have a falconer friend/co-worker who spent nearly $10,000 importing a goshawk from Europe only to have the bird perish from a fluke genetic condition. He’s still trying to recuperate that loss. He has done a lot of field work studying the population in Ontario and has a deep Lire davantage

l have been a falconer for many years, l am very happy to see goshawks included in wild take for falconry, they are a very important species that are almost impossible to obtain from captive breeding. This along with the other changes will be great for falconry.

I think this is a great proposal to move forward. This will greatly benefit the state of falconry and of citizen conservation efforts. No group I can think of as a whole has demonstrated such a focus on conservation as falconers. Lire davantage

My neighbour is an active falconer, and has been one for several years. The MNRF is adopting an approach that has been used successfully in other provinces and U.S. states. There is no reason to think they won’t succeed here as well. Lire davantage

I disagree with this proposal. Wild raptors need to be kept wild for the benefit of nature and our planet as a whole.

As a licensed Ontario wildlife and raptor rehabilitator, falconer and raptor breeder ( including Northern Goshawk) for 40 years I think that it is an excellent idea to add Northern Goshawks to the list of wild Ontario raptors which could be utilized for hunting in partnership with licensed Ontario f Lire davantage
