I do not support allowing treated wastewater from Searchmont Ski Resort to be discharged into the Goulais River. Even treated effluent can impact water quality, aquatic life, and the overall ecosystem over time. Lire davantage

Background: I have canoed, camped and fished along 50 miles of the Goulais River for 70 years. It is one the most scenic and accessible rivers in Northern Ontario. It is home to Lake Trout, Brook Trout, Pike, Muskie, Pickerel, Rainbow Trout and 3 species of Salmon. Lire davantage

The residents of Goulais River, especially those who live directly next to the river itself, have already made their voices and opinions abundantly clear that we reject the idea of disposing of 'treated' effluent into the Goulais river. Lire davantage

Appropriate First Nation consultation has not been given to this project. There is public accountability that is required, regardless of privately funded versus publicly funded. We urge the Minsitry to halt further permissions until this is resolved with Batchewana First Nation. Lire davantage

Treated sewage should never be allowed in our precious water resources. The area is an outdoor activity based area which we should be good stewards of. Our waterways are not a place for chemically treated water.

While I would be supportive of almost anything that would bring tourism and economic development to our area, as a Goulais River resident down stream of the resort, I CANNOT support anything being pumped into the river, treated or not. Lire davantage

STOP! Keep the Goulais River clean! Whether it’s treated or not, dumping sewage into the Goulais River is senseless. As with anything, there are risks, and those risks are not worth taking when it comes to our waterways. Lire davantage

Let’s not ruin another good water system with discharging this stuff into the beautiful goulais river. They are an isolated resort how about stick with an upgraded septic system and holding tanks for the 5 months a year they run and have capacity.

I’m very concerned about the potential impact of this proposal on the Goulais River and its surrounding ecosystem. Even treated sewage can greatly degrade water quality, harm wildlife, and affect recreational use downstream. These headwaters are worth protecting as they always were. Lire davantage

Searchmont Resort should not dump wastewater into the Goulais River because of concerns about potential harm to the ecosystem, which could be affected by pollutants like phosphates and pharmaceutical residues that remain even after treatment. Lire davantage

Dumping sewage, treated or not, into a prisitine riverine environment is unacceptable. I vehemently oppose this proposal. It would not be acceptable for a Canadian owned company to do this, let alone a foreign-owned company to do so. Lire davantage

I support this development and welcome the economic benefits that the project will bring to the region. I feel there is minimal disruption to the Goulais River water system and the company and design takes into consideration the possible effects properly and in accordance with regulations.

I think this should not be allowed, it is the stupidest thing I ever heard of. That river produces a ton of different species of fish that flows into lake Superior. I can not believe environmental Canada would even think of doing this! Lire davantage

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed wastewater treatment plant in Searchmont that would release treated effluent into the Goulais River. Lire davantage
