I am submitting this comment as a resident of Ontario who is deeply concerned about the proposal to consolidate Ontario’s 36 conservation authorities into just seven large regional bodies.

It only makes sense for the Lakehead Conservation Authority to remain independent, why should anyone other than the folks in Thunder Bay be making decisions on areas that they have very little, if any knowledge about. If it isn't broke why try and screw it up!!!
I am firmly opposed to the proposal to merge Ontario’s 36 conservation authorities into seven regional bodies. This plan will significantly weaken environmental protection, eliminate local oversight, and reduce the accountability Ontarians rely on to keep our communities safe.

Conservation should be our top priority as a province. The province should not have a say in how the municipalities want to run their programs.

Conservation area should be protected. This is not something that the conservative party of Ontario care about. I am certain that any changes to the conservation areas under this government are to make it easier to give land to developers.

This is a foolish idea. Local conservation authorities were created by Leslie Frost in response to the disaster and loss of life caused by Hurricane Hazel precisely because local knowledge was critical to the safety and security of residents of any given region.

Thank you for the chance to comment on this issue. The proposal is very complex and deserves a close review of all possible consequences. Unfortunately, the presented 'solution' looks like a first draft to solve only one problem.

As a property owner within the UTRCA watershed, I see first-hand the level of manpower, expertise, and daily on-the-ground work that UTRCA staff provide. Their presence is not abstract, it is visible, responsive, and essential to the health of our watershed.

Dear Minister,
Your plan to consolidate Conservation Authorities into 7 mega boards will endanger local democracy, cause flooding that will endanger thousands of Ontarians, destroy wetland bio-diversity and lead to more water pollution.

I oppose this move to consolidate the various watershed conservation authorities into 7 larger groups. If the main purpose is to make procedures/regulations more consistent, that can be done in other ways, without this consolidation move.

Regarding ERO #025-1257:
I oppose the proposed merger of conservation authorities across Ontario, and specifically the merger of the Hamilton Conservation Authority with similar agencies in Peel and Niagara.

I do not agree with the amalgamation of the conservation authorities. I would much rather see better guidelines provided for authorities to improve consistency.

Merging conservation authorities is a bad idea for many reasons. The one that really comes to mind is there will be less focus on individual regions, and the ecology of the these regions will suffer, causing other places to suffer as they are all connected.

There is no way that a consolidation would be able to properly handle and know what is best for certain areas.

It is unclear to me as to the intentions of the Ontario Government as they are working towards ammalgamating the Conservation Authorities in our province.

It is entirely short sighted and and an egregious mistake to merge more conservation authorities, effectively increasing the work load and decreasing the capacity of the environmental and social safe guards.
