I've been hunting for 22 years and I firmly believe that all hunters should be conservationists first and hunters second. Without a sustainable population of moose we cannot continue to hunt them. With the declining populations I would support a temporary ban on hunting cows and calves. Read more

For the second allocation, what about camps that group hunt? That doesn't seem fair to lose your points in the second round if two people draw tags and your camp only needs one. Why not have a third round first come, first serve or something?

There are far too moose in Ontario for MNR to even consider giving out more tags…..people have been telling the MNR that for years…..cut back on the tags, let the population increase before there are none left….listen to the people with knowledge of our wildlife…..this is becoming heartbreaking

There will be no way to accurately control the moose population and issue the required amount of tags, regardless of the system developed, until the MNRF is given the stats for the number of moose taken each year by indigenous hunters. Read more

I believe the previous system worked better. The one thing I do agree with the new system is the removal of automatic calf tags for all persons. They will become future adult moose which can reproduce. The previous system should be brought back but with the few known issues being fixed. Read more

I do agree with introducing measures to ensure there are no or at least very few unclaimed moose tags. However, I don't agree with point #1. I would prefer that MNR shorten the time period for claiming tags both on first chance and on second chance so the unclaimed tags can be reallocated. Read more

I firmly believe that given the dual factors of climate change and human pressure on the natural ecosystems of Ontario that the Moose hunt should be closed for at least 10 years. As an Ontario sportsman I have observed first hand the horrific decline in the moose population. Read more

I do not agree with the punitive measure of forcing hunters to take the tag, there are always incidents that make it so a hunter will not be able to hunt,at times right up until the hunt begins. Read more

The tag system is horrible we should be finding out if we have tags well before august people need to book holidays if they actually do get a tag it should be done in 1 draw done by points and yes any unclaimed tags should definitely be done first come basis. Read more

Your tag system only caters to large groups. Who wants to hunt ever 6 years. I live in Nipigon and now am the only one left in the group applying for a tag. I am 79 and will have to wait another 3 years to get drawn for an adult tag for gun and archery is worse. Read more

I agree that changes are required to the moose quota allocation system. I believe that a hybrid system of your current method of allocating tags and your previous method would be a better and fairer way of allocating tags. Read more

This proposal will not help distribute tags any better because if my group draws more than one tag on the second draw why would we spend the money on a tag we don't need and lose all the points either way. Read more

As an tourist operator, the timing of the last chance tag draw hampers my ability to offer accommodations to resident hunters. Even having to wait for the timing of the second draw makes it difficult. Read more
