This is an idea that causes me stress, don’t love it, don’t even like it a little bit. Amalgamating will no longer allow the regional CA to make the best decisions for their communities. The CAs should be left alone.

Locally based decision-making and accountability is important for conservation. The reason for this amalgamation has not even been justified. I disagree wholeheartedly as a resident of Hamilton who benefits greatly from the amazing work that the Hamilton Conservation Area does in my community. Read more

This another example of overreach and negating local autonomy. Local input and decision making for the conservation authorities (school boards too) is important and more representative of local needs than imposing decisions made by those located remotely.

We need more unified stratigic direction instead of fragmented decision making. Better representation on the board made up of outdoor users such as bicycles,ATV riders, snowmobiles and a walking trail for people. There should only be one municipal representative. Read more

I disagree with this. Not sure why consolidation would ever be better - smaller communities thrive on autonomy for things like this vs larger corps/minds from out of town thinking they know best. Seems like a power move that is not welcome.

I completely oppose this proposed legislation to merge 36 local Conservation Authorities into seven massive regional bodies! This regressive plan is terribly concerning to me - as it is a blatant attempt to consolidate power into the hands a of few, distant administrative bodies. Read more

The Conservation Authorities have lost their way. They are more obsessed with keeping land wet than flood prevention. Their modus operandi is to regulate as much land as possible to prevent development. This legislative overhaul is long overdue! Read more

The amalgamation of conservation authorities is a step backwards in Ontario's responsible stewardship of our natural areas. Conservation Authorities were created according to watersheds and each one provides critical expertise on that area. Read more

Please do not split up our local conservation authorities. The current system allows for an individualized approach. The people who are currently running the Essex area are doing an outstanding job and this change will risk their efforts.

Please do not amalgamate the conservation areas. Each area is very unique and needs to be considered as such. The large area consolidation would not be able to give each area the attention they all deserve.

We are quite concerned about the move to amalgamate the conservation areas into larger groups. Each conservation area has its own unique issues and knowledge of the waterways they monitor. Read more

Locally based decision-making and accountability is important for Conservation! The reason for this amalgamation has not been justified. The HCA is one of the Hamilton City Depts with a positive track record of responsiveness and success. Read more
