Key Concerns with the Proposed Changes: • Watershed-based management must be preserved. They were developed based on unique hydrology and geology that require specialist management rather than centralized consistency directed from distant centres with limited to no local knowledge. Read more

I am looking forward to the amalgamation of the Sault Ste Marie regional conservation authority which was recently brought forward. At one time this organization truly worked to protect the Hiawatha highlands area and other sites around the city. Read more

I respectfully disagree with the proposed boundaries for the regional consolidation of Ontario's conservation authorities. Many of the current conservation areas have unique issues given their geographic locations and I fear these unique aspects will be lost with consolidation. Read more

I am opposed to the proposal to consolidate Ontario’s 36 conservation authorities into 7 large regional authorities as the resulting organization will be ineffective at applying science and local insight. I will provide more details in the following: Read more

The step to merge all the conservation authorities down to just 7 is a giant step back for conservation in Ontario. All this move does is help developers cut through red tape to develop the lands that are vital to prevent flooding and species at risk. Read more

I strongly oppose the consolidation of the Conservation Authorities and the creation of the Ontario Provincial Conservation Authority that would remove decision-making from local experts and municipalities. Read more

Believe the proposed geographic areas are too large and diverse. Also see little benefit in the goal of standardizing fees for developers across the province as development and construction costs will otherwise vary significantly between Toronto and Lake Superior. Read more

The government is using this as an opportunity to increase their political power and erode our local governance and autonomy. Just like they are trying to privatize healthcare and education. The Ford government promised to improve the energy sector to and hiked prices. Read more

We do not support this amalgamation of conservation authorities as presented. The Province of Ontario has reduced a large majority of funding to our conservation authorities. Thus they are relying a great deal on local donations and bequests through Wills and Estates. Read more

While it is my understanding that part of the Ford agenda is dismantling ecosystems in Ontario, increasing the size and scope of our boundaries will afford him that. There is no way that you can effectively monitor such a large and diverse area.

I feel this change would eliminate much of the existing local representation who decide on the programs that help protect and maintain our current healthy watershed. Bigger is not always better. You will lose the information that is specific to each rural and urban community. Read more

I am very concerned about this proposal. As someone with a science degree who has worked in environmental science for years, it is clear that no one with a science background was consulted for this. Read more
