Giving the government autonomy to "have discretion to remove protected species from the list" will certainly lead to abuse and ultimately the destruction of habitats that we only have one shot to protect.

This is completely wrong and unfair to the wildlife. Just because we cannot hear them does not mean they don’t have a voice. Shame on you for disregarding another life form!

As an ecological landscape designer and environmental columnist, I find Bill 5—Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act—to be a dangerously misleading title for what is, in reality, an assault on biodiversity and the foundational protections that keep ecosystems intact. Read more

This proposal is an archaic and colonial mindset - delays and a minor inconvenience is worth tolerating when it comes to the protection of our natural habitats and the literal lives of the living things we are already encroaching on. We only get one planet Earth. Read more

With the rapid decline in the numbers of soooo many endangered species due to climate change, pollution, deforestation, it would be a devastating and irreversible mistake to change the act to allow the go ahead of destruction of the homes of wildlife that are endangered. Read more

It is essential that we have a long term perspective to sustainable and quality life when it comes to wildlife protection. I implore you not to put the future of my grandchildren at risk with the removal of this act. Protect wildlife.

Absolutely unacceptable for the conservative government to yet again be trying to allow developers to buy our protected land. Insane we need to go through this process of submitted feedback twice. NO, Ford! Read more

The government should not be allowed to remove species from the species at risk list that has been produced by science based research. What expertise do politicians have on this subject? It opens the door to abuse of power. Read more

Placing the care of species behind the building of highways is the quickest way to cause extinction. These laws are in place because humans are simply terrible at holding two things at the same time; progress and preservation. Read more

This is absolutely unacceptable. This has been an act that has proven positive outcomes on the environment and vulnerable species. Changing this protection should not be allowed at any cost. Read more

Protect our wildlife now and always. What a horrible plan from Doug Ford. Our wildlife animals, reptiles, birds, reptiles and insects are counting on us human beings to protect their land.

The Endangered Species Act is meant to slow down or halt development to ensure the protection of the natural world. This Bill is an affront to these protections, and will be a disaster for the natural world and all who depend on it for our survival (namely, all of us!). Read more

This is a reckless set of proposals that will gut current policies (that are already not stringent enough). It will increase local pollution, decrease wildlife habitats, and further stress the ecosystems upon which our lives are dependent. Read more

Many bird species have a complicated set of habitat criteria and need our help to keep them protected and safe from extinction. Please don’t eliminate these critical bird and habitat protections!

I cannot begin to express how disappointing it is to see a government undo the progress that has been made in species conservation in Ontario. While I'm sure my comment will have no bearing on the outcome of these proposed changes, I couldn't live with not having said anything. Read more
