I am deeply concerned about the proposed amendments to and ultimate repeal of the endangered species act. I believe this is an essential piece of legislation for the protection of our province as a whole. Read more

Broadly, this appears to completely gut our provincial species at risk legislation, does not recognise the diversity of habitat animals and plants need in favour of an extremely narrow and restricted one, and will make it much easier for land development to occur in environmentally sensitive areas. This is materially and optically a horrible move by the government that I do not support. I have a number of concerns: 1. What is especially telling is the lack of science behind this proposal. Where is the evidence that this proposal will actually protect endangered species. 2. Read more

Please do not approve this bill. It will be detrimental to our ecology. Replacing the endangered species act all together is a huge step backwards. The proposed “economic zones” make no sense and are not democratic. They give Ford and his developer friends too much power. Read more

This proposal is simply removing barriers to development, making it easier to damage habitats and species at risk. Sounds like a very short sighted plan. I do not endorse this for our province. Read more

I am against this proposal to make interim changes to the Endangered Species Act as it appears to aim to shift the framework for habitat and endangered species protections toward one that prioritizes permitting and development timeline for projects that ostensibly involve changes in land-use pertine Read more

This new proposal does not offer or include the required upfront protections for all species. Particularly alarming is the harm that will be caused by changing the definition of habitat and the removal of harassment. Read more

The Endangered Species act is written the way it is for an important reason. To safeguard incredible spaces in Ontario that are habitat for the species we care deeply about, that are threatened or endangered. Read more

Instead of changing and reducing protection of endangered species and lands we should be increasing it! Another move from a government that doesn't care about the health and welfare of our native lands and the species within it, along with agriculture land being sold all over for development. I'm a Canadian Citizen and I'm disgusted by the proposed Bill 5 that changes the endangered species act to no longer include a recovery plan. No one should be able to out vote conservationists and the indigenous people of our country when it comes to the preservation on wildlife and nature. Read more

The conservation of species is very important and integral to wildlife and environmental causes. It is our duty as humans to protect them not destroy their habitats. It doesn’t matter if it takes time to build houses and other infrastructure. Read more

As a tax-paying, voting citizen of Ontario, I oppose the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act, 2007. It should be long and laborious process to decide that we will destroy critical habitat. And only when stringent criteria are met should we move forward with construction. Read more
