To ensure that polluters are actually facing consequences for their illegal actions we need to preserve large, daily fines with no caps. Dump a toxin every day for a month means 30x$100,000. Only high and unlimited fines will actually make them comply with the law.

Despite the claim by Jeff Yurek, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, that proposed changes to administrative monetary penalties will hold polluters accountable, the changes will have the opposite effect and make it less expensive to pollute in Ontario. Lire davantage

You absolutely cannot set fines per contravention rather than per day. Lire davantage

The very first and most important thing that folks in Ontario need from their elected public servants is truth and factual information. Statements recently made in support of Section 9 of Bill 132 are yet another example of exactly the opposite! Lire davantage

Lol wut? This is a terrible plan. Why are we fining polluters LESS than before? How is a fire sale on pollution fines going to deter them from polluting? This plan is basically a carte blanche for on an environmental massacre.

Can you please leave the topic alone or if you are so hell bent on changing it meet with environmental groups and experts? It's not too much too ask

The proposal in Schedule 9 of Bill 132 to eliminate daily fines and cap total fines is unacceptable because it will mean industries can get away with a one time fee of $200,000 per contravention instead of $100,000 per day. Lire davantage

i just read excerpts from your environmental protection bill. According to experts, the water pollution section falls far short. One of the major concerns is that repeat offenders will get off with a one time fine of $200 000 instead of the current $100 000 fine per offence. Lire davantage

This bill makes it cheaper for companies to pollute and lacks sufficient incentives for companies to modernize waste solutions. Research consistently demonstrates the need to align fines and rewards with a bottom line understanding applied in business, I. E. Lire davantage

The fines under the Nutrient Management Act are far too light. The fines should be aligned with those of the other regulations. Furthermore, the Source Water Protection Act should also be included in this package with comparable fines. Once an aquifer is lost, it is lost forever. Lire davantage

I voted for the progressive conservatives in the previous provincial election but I can't see myself doing it again. Introducing bills that essentially limit the amount of fines and penalties that can be imposed on big corporations to a one-time slap on the wrist offence. Lire davantage

I believe that this is an important tool that currently missing from the compliance toolkit. I am strongly supportive of administrative monetary penalties and believe that this change should be implemented as quickly as possible.

We need to expand environmental protection, and this means both more stringent regulations and increased fines for noncompliance. Time and time again corporations have showed us they are terrible stewards of the environment, and need legislation to achieve even a modicum of responsibilty. Lire davantage

How can this be? How is this even a consideration? The optics are disgusting. Funding for healthcare and seniors and legal aid and education and autism is slashed whilst deputy ministers get 14% raises and a 5 month break and this is what comes down the pipe in the first weeks back? Lire davantage

I think eliminating daily fines for pollution is a mistake. Only having fines-per-incident will remove any incentive for the guilty party to stop what they are doing, or reduce the timeline of the offence. Lire davantage

Please don't change anything. I know Conservatives value only money and having businesses make more money but we are in a end-of-life scenario. There isn't time for messing around. This already has bad press and it is all over that you are helping the polluters. Lire davantage
