No wild raptors should be taken for falconry or for any other purpose. They could use a captive breeding population. There are already raptors in captivity being used for falconry, use them to breed more!

I have a family member who has been a falconer for many years. I have read the amendment to the Wildtake program and I can see why the wildtake draw does not have many benefits to the falconers. Lire davantage

For many years my uncle has been a falconer. I don't believe the Wildtake draw is beneficial for falconers. I support falconers to catch a bird, under a year, each year as this is better for both the Falcons and falconers. Thank you.

As a falconer myself, I speak from specific, recent experience when I say the difference between a bird taken from the wild and a purchased bird is vast. Lire davantage

What an exciting proposal. This will only benefit wild birds in Ontario as falconry has already been proven to be a no impact sport to wildlife. As a veterinary technician I'm eager to see what experienced falconers can learn from hands on experience with wild northern goshawks. Lire davantage

I do not believe in the capture of any wild bird or animal, raptors included for support. Capture of a wild creature for the benefit of people is not fair to the captured individual and dramatically changes the life style of that individual. Lire davantage

I oppose this proposed legislation to permit people to take more wild raptor species for falconry purposes than is currently allowed. Lire davantage

The value of raptors in urban setting is more than pest control. It is educational, I have shown non naturalist the listed merlin, red-tailed hawk, sharp shined hawk, coopers hawk and goshawk as well as turkey vulture, [T.V] and peregrine over streets of the city. Lire davantage

I fully support this proposal. Falconry is likely the least impactful method of hunting on game animal populations and is recognized as a heritage activity. Lire davantage

I am against this proposal. I reside in north Richmond Hill and over the years have noticed a reduction in the number of falcons and other birds of prey as residential and commercial developments have increased. Lire davantage

I am totally opposed to the following proposal. "Proposal to expand the live capture of wild raptors (birds of prey) by licensed falconers" Lets support our wildlife and stop removing it from the nature...

I am in full agreement with the proposal. Northern goshawks are a very secretive bird and as such it can be often difficult to actually determine their numbers. The OHC has gone to extraordinary lengths in the past few years to get out and actually find and record nests and nesting results. Lire davantage

It is unconscionable to take any living creature from its natural environment and, in effect, weaponize it for the purpose of human sport. To call such a captive creature a hunting companion is to misrepresent the nature of the falcon-falconer relationship. The falcon is not a companion. Lire davantage

It isn't often that America has something to teach Canada, especially when conservation and management of natural resources are concerned. So, it came as a shock to me to learn exactly how legal wild take is currently done for Ontario falconers. Lire davantage

The MNRF is adopting an approach that has been used successfully in other provinces and U.S. states. There is no reason to think they won’t succeed here as well. You will be a better educated falconer if you can take a bird from the wild.
