This amendment is terribly unbalanced in favour of cottagers while trying to curb the behaviors of a few inconsiderate people. The 300 meter distance is far too restrictive and will affect the safety of boaters seeking shelter from storms. Lire davantage

As a cottage in the Township of the Archipelago, I support regulation of floating cottages. This is a very delicate and sadly already degraded environment.

I support the proposals to amend Ontario Regulation 161/17 (O. Reg. 161/17) under the Public Lands Act described in ERO 019-6590 posted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry on February 24, 2023. Lire davantage

This regulation is punitive to boaters and further exacerbates friction between landowners and boaters. It seems to only address concerns of landowners with waterfront, and not take into account the needs of the many boaters that also use this land. Lire davantage

If passed as written this proposal will result in severely reducing the size and number of anchorages available to sail and power boats in Ontario. In many areas of the Thousand Islands in the St. Lawrence it is impossible to anchor 300 meters from a cottage or boat house.

Under no circumstances should this use be permitted on a lake. Cottage and home owners fronting onto bodies of water paid a considerable amount to enjoy the view not to mention the annual property taxes. No one would want to have a floating structure situated within proximity to their property. Lire davantage

These changes are only benefitting the GBA and their rich cottage owners, please consider the boaters of Ontario as well, please see Ontario boating.

The proposed 300 metre set back from developed shoreline for anchoring overnight while cruising would make most anchorages that are now available to cruisers no longer available in the Bay of Quinte and the Thousand Islands. Lire davantage

It would appear that while trying to deal with the permanent mooring on public lands and the non payment of taxes by these vessels the recreational boater will be impacted. Owners of cruising vessels contribute to the economy through marina fees, groceries, fuel and repairs. Lire davantage

To do this will be detrimental losses to boat owners but businesses that rely on these cruising boats that anchor near by, towns of which rely on the summer seasons to make the money that helps them in the off seasons you'll kill the economy by putting this through. Lire davantage

This proposal significantly impacts boaters in Georgian Bay. As a boater, this proposal will force me to get out of boating as it fundamentally changes the way cruisers boat in the area. It will also close the marinas, given there will be few boaters left. Lire davantage

Dear Sir/Madam: I am writing to express my serious personal objections to the MNRF’s proposed new restrictions on “camping over water”, particularly as they would apply north of the French and Mattawa Rivers. Lire davantage

This will wipe out the marine industry on the Great Lakes. It will affect towns, business and individuals that rely on supporting boaters. All because some entitled landowners don't want to see a few houseboats. Lire davantage

Fully support the changes and support the wording. Social impacts to keep the waters calm is a great direction of creating some much needed framework. The lack of common sense makes things like this necessary nowadays to keep the peace.

I would take issue with some of the proposed changes as being too aggressive. I can appreciate trying to harmonize boaters versus land owners. The impacts for coming on land for 21 days is no different than staying on water above public land. There is loss of sunlight in both circumstances. Lire davantage

I support not allowing floating residences to be set up, mostly because I believe the resident should pay property taxes and these container floating homes are dodging that responsibility . Lire davantage

Maybe you need to come out at night and see how quite it is at most bays and I have never myself seen any boater abuse the same waters that we swim in or love to go to to enjoy our public waters , I don’t believe island or main land owners are the only Canadians that should enjoy our lakes
