It’s 2024 and we’re still aligning with trappers - a dying (or dead) industry?! Snares are not even considered a humane way to restrain/kill an animal but instead of doing away with them you’re adjusting them to help trappers keep the animals’ fur in better condition? We should be ashamed. Lire davantage

Why are we still even trapping animals for their fur? Of course, more humane trapping methods should be used but I question the humanity in killing animals for their fur.

I do not agree with these new regulations for the following reasons: The province needs to publish the research findings it references on the ERO page so that the public can make informed comments on this consultation. Lire davantage

While there are, "perhaps", ways and means to make snares "somewhat" less inhumane, there is nothing humane about snaring animals which is why they have been banned in other countries. Lire davantage

No need for humans to wear or use fur. No need for trapping. No need for cruelty, suffering, and anguish. Stop it all.

As with any law, laws around trapping need to prioritize animal welfare and should be informed by current, peer-reviewed science, not guidelines created by the commercial fur industry. Lire davantage

The Ontario government needs to publish the research findings it refers to on the ERO page to help the public make informed comments. Trapping laws must prioritize animal welfare and should be based on current, peer-reviewed science, not guidelines created by or for the commercial fur industry. Lire davantage

There is no trapping that is humane. No snaring that is humane. The number of bycatch is staggering. For every intentional catch statistically 26 other animals die. Domestic pets also die in snares/traps. You know this. Why do you still support this outdated cruel practice? Lire davantage

These changes should not be made until the Province is able to cite (and make available) independent peer-reviewed scientific research, which it has either been unable or unwilling to do to this point. Doing so will allow the people of Ontario to make informed comments in this consultation. Lire davantage

The Ontario government must hold itself accountable for the ethical treatment of animals. Snare traps should be abolished.

First of all let me state that I oppose trapping wildlife of any kind. However, I am not sure why you are making these changes without publishing the research that you are referring to on the ERO page. Why not back yup your claims and show the public when you ask them to comment? Lire davantage

Canada and therefore Ontario needs to ban or at least severely restrict, the use of snares and the like just as much of Europe has, namely Wales, Scotland, Ireland and the England. Ontario also needs to publish the research it has done to rely on for making these proposed changes. Lire davantage

Many countries around the world have banned snares entirely and it’s time for the province to end the use of these devices in Ontario as well. Farmers should be encouraged to use non-lethal, predator friendly farming methods instead of trapping wildlife. Lire davantage

this trapping practice must be banned as is both inhumane and outdated. We live in a gentler time and must not fall back on barbaric treatment of animals.
