This government does not listen to science, fact, or reason, nor do they listen to the people of this province. They only care about their rich developer associates. Lire davantage

You should be ashamed of yourselves for removing environmental protections for species at risk. All your government wants to do is get your buddies rich by allowing development.

Protecting Ontario’s at-risk birds is not just about saving individual species — it’s about preserving the balance and health of our entire ecosystem. Birds are vital to Ontario’s environment, agriculture, and even our economy. Lire davantage

I strongly oppose the proposed Species Conservation Act, 2025 (Bill 5). These amendments would dismantle the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and replace it with a framework that prioritizes short-term economic interests over long-term ecological health. Lire davantage

We need more protection for nature not less. Take the long view and look how bird populations and biodiversity has shifted in the last 100 years. Pick nature over revenues. We can pay now or pay later when populations start collapsing

These proposed amendments are dangerous and unnecessary. Removing legal protections for at-risk bird species and removing the at-risk status of species that are in decline puts these species in jeopardy of continued decline an potential extinction. Lire davantage

We are proposing five new regulations to implement the new Species Conservation Act and facilitate a registration-first approach while maintaining strong environmental safeguards. This proposal also includes some amendments to the SCA and consequential amendments to other statutes and regulations. Lire davantage

I believe that all at-risk species need to be protected to the fullest of our capabilities. The diminishing number of birds over the last 50 years is gravely concerning. Not protecting at-risk birds allows for the impacts of climate catastrophe to go unmeasured.

As a field biologist in Canada, I regularly witness the tension between industrial development and conservation. Too often, industry wins, and our most sensitive species lose. Lire davantage

The Ontario government SHOULD NOT pass this! Limiting the protection of species to a specific area is dangerous as wildlife impacts pour into multiple areas and what happens in one area will impact another! Lire davantage

I don’t believe this new legislation effectively protects Ontario’s wildlife. Wildlife conservation should be a top priority. Lire davantage

This change in Legislation is misleading and poorly communicated. The proposal description listed here deliberately omits the actual impacts this proposal will have, using ambiguous phrasing. Lire davantage

Speaking as a conservation biologist, repealing the ESA and enacting the new Species Conservation Act will, without a doubt, result in species extinctions. Lire davantage

Ontario is home to a plethora of bird species, but because they are an already threatened group - we should be focused on preserving them rather than following through with Bill 5 that will inevitably push them further toward endangerment. 25 bird species are specifically threatened by this bill.
