I am a member of the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club. I'm concerned amalgamation could reduce local decision-making, delay trail maintenance and permitting, and weaken long-standing community and volunteer partnerships. Read more

No one can understand the needs and circumstances of an area other than those that actually live and react in that area. Taking that away opens up to changes that could affect that area not benefitting it.

I am concerned that amalgamating Conservation Areas will reduce and delay local decision making regarding recreational use on Conservation lands. The example I have knowledge of is Hiawatha Highlands / Soo Nordic Ski Club in Sault Ste Marie. Read more

After reading the proposal for consolidation of conservation areas i would be against this proposal. Along with another layer of paperwork this would weaken the power of local authorities to prevent construction in delicate watershed ecosystems. Read more

Mark my words—this proposal would be detrimental to conservation. The natural environment we enjoy in Northern Ontario is one of the few bright spots in our lives these days. As a physician, I use it to prevent burnout, as do many of my colleagues. Read more

I do not support the plan to consolidate Ontario's conservation authorities. The proposed consolidation does not consider the unique environmental needs of Ontario. We have a diverse range of ecosystems in Ontario, and each requires a different approach to management due to these differences. Read more

I believe the consolidation of the 36 Conservation Authorities (CAs) is a terrible idea for the following reasons and is just another ploy by the Ford Government to remove power from communities and impose control from Queen’s Park. Read more

Please leave the structure of the stewardship as it is. By expanding the boundaries and reducing the size of the employees managing the areas you are compromising the quality of service and stewardship of these precious resources. You are also taking away good jobs from hard working Ontarians. Read more

I volunteer for Source Water Protection. Being closely involved in working with the Regional Authority, I can confirm both the importance of their work, and that the boundaries should not be expanded to reduce the number of regional Conservation areas. Most of them are already too broad! Read more

I am providing my comments on the proposed amalgamation of the Ontario Conservation Authorities. In short, I believe that the current proposal is flawed and will not meet the intended objectives and will actually do the opposite. Read more

I am concerned about the proposed changes to the conservation authorities. As a northern resident we rely on being able to utilize the lands for recreation. For example the Hiawatha Highlands and Algoma Highlands are both critical to the public and tourists for skiing, hiking and cycling. Read more

The ‘one size fits all’ approach is simply wrong. As the late Hazel McCallion would say “do your homework folks”. I submit the following comments - - could a few CAs benefit from mergers. Yes. It would help with resources and capacity for small rural underfunded CAs. Read more
