The proposal to merge the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority with an entity from southern Ontario is the most embarrassingly stupid idea this government has put forward yet. There are no current problems or issues with the LRCA, particularly none that hinder development. Read more

Ontario watersheds are not the only consideration needed to be made when defining conservation boundaries. Delicate microhabitats need local knowledge to be adequately protected, which a large amalgam of a conservation authority will undoubtedly miss. Read more

The proposed boundaries are too board since conservation authorities manage different landscapes, flood risks and ecosystems. Conservation authorities have been doing this work for 80 years; building relationships with farmers, municipalities, indigenous community members, and more. Read more

I, strongly oppose the proposed boundaries for the regional consolidation of Ontario’s Conservation Authorities. The proposed changes will erode accountability and local services, impose significant costs on taxpayers, and cause delays for landowners, builder and developers. Read more

Do not go through with this legislation, it will slow down the efficiency of the watershed management and increase flood risk by preventing the Conservation authorities from making well informed, site specific decisions to properly inform the public.

Has anyone looked at the logistics of this plan? In our area, this would mean amalgamating with seven other conservation areas in the proposed Lake Erie Regional Conservation Authority, which would include 81 municipalities. Read more

Hi, the decision to consolidate these regions is reckless and irresponsible, especially in a time where conservation efforts are critical to ensure preservation of our natural habitats as long as possible. Read more

I don’t agree with this. Currently each conservation authority is run/managed by people within that community and they ensure that the conservation is maintained. Allowing the province government to control it will make it harder for conservations to get the attention they need. Read more

This is yet another example of the Ford Government's disregard for environmental sustainability. Local conservation authorities don't make decisions about housing, so this is an unfounded argument. Read more

I do not support this proposal. All of these different conservation authorities exist for a reason, managing a watershed is very complex and cannot simply be conglomerated for the whole province. A local and community focused approach is needed for effective conservation and flood protection. Read more

This proposal is a change in the wrong direction. Conservation Authorities by definition are watershed delineated geographic areas that are managed ecologically, socially, culturally, and economically addressing the specific hazards and restoration efforts of said geographic area. Read more

The proposed consolidation of Ontario’s 36 conservation authorities into seven regional, watershed-based authorities is a positive step toward stronger and more consistent environmental management. Read more
