I am deeply concerned about the Ontario government’s propose amendments of the endangered species act. These changes appear to prioritize development interest over the protection of the province’s, most vulnerable species and ecosystems.

I oppose bill 5. Canada needs to hold strong with environmental protections, and not follow the reckless path of Donald Trump and the United States. I oppose shortcuts for industry with no public oversight and I oppose overriding the law in special economic zones.
As a resident of Ontario, I strongly object to Bill 5. If passed, it will put many endangered species at further risk. It will also leave Indigenous populations exposed to further harm. Stop Bill 5 immediately!
Since reputable environmentalist groups and watchdogs are speaking out against this bill, I am worried this Bill takes frightening steps towards anti-democratic, anti-environmental, and anti-Indigenous powers that significantly risk public health, climate collapse, and worsened systemic oppression.

I do not agree with putting aside environmental studies or protections when moving forward with any new project. It is irresponsible to disregard the environment or the other species that cohabitate with us in this province.

As a biologist I do NOT support minimizing the role of COSSARO or COSEWIC. I also do NOT support any legislation that speeds up the time between registration and site development. Especially by removing steps. These things take time for a reason.
