I am a local resident and strongly oppose this proposal. Wasaga Beach Provincial Park is a cherished natural area, and I do not support removing land from provincial protection or selling it to developers. Once this land is gone, we can’t get it back.

Just the thought of anymore of our precious parks and green spaces being sold off to investors for profit makes my skin boil.

Piping Plovers are an extremely endangered species and need our protection. Parks staff as well as the plover program staff have worked hard for years to preserve these nesting pairs so that the Piping Plover is not extirpated from the province. It would be a shame to undo that.

The proposal to remove this land from its protected status to be part of an initiative to promote tourism is very short sighted.
Wasaga Beach is the nesting site for an endangered shorebird, the Piping Plover, which is just now, slowly, after many years, starting to return and nest there.
