I think consolidating 36 conservation authorities into only 7 regions. The proposed Huron-Superior and Northeastern regions are far too large and will lose vital local knowledge, low availability for necessities, and weaken flood protection when climate risks are rising. Read more

I appreciate the opportunity to provide feedback on the proposal to consolidate Ontario’s conservation authorities (CAs). While the goal of improving efficiency and aligning CA activities with provincial priorities is understandable, I have several concerns: Read more

I am from a lake association in Ontario and we have worked with our local Conservation Authority many times on many issues. They are very competent people who know the region they look after in great detail. Read more

I am strongly opposed to the amalgamation of Ontario's conservation authorities. This is the kind of proposal that looks like it could streamline things and increase efficiency on paper, but in reality will do the exact opposite. Read more

The strength of Conservation Authorities is that they are local in nature. They've done a good job of creating budgets that are a combination of municipal levy and revenue generation at a local level with community board members helping to define programming. Read more

I support improving consistency across conservation authorities, but consolidation should not reduce local watershed knowledge or slow down essential services like permitting and flood forecasting. Read more

A careful reading of the Supplemental Document leads me to believe that this initiative has little to do with increasing "efficient Governance" or better delivery of housing development. It clearly is an Authoritarian power shift solely to the Ministers Office and Provincial Cabinet. Read more

I support the proposed boundaries for the regional consolidation of Ontario’s conservation authorities because it can improve coordination and ensure more consistent and effective environmental protection. It can also reduce administrative duplication.

The proposal makes sense. I can see value when administrative costs are reduced and the ability to share knowledge and experience is enhanced. While I see the value in local knowledge the local view is often myopic and lacks the perspective of a much larger and important vision. Read more

In my view, Ontario's Conservation authorities should follow decentralized approach by only grouping areas with > 70% similar characteristics in one category. Unique characteristics of individual area should not be oversight. Conservation should be sustainable from 360 degree view point.

This will remove the local knowledge that individual conservation authorities hold about the lands they steward. By consolidating into 7 authorities, I believe that focus will be lost for efforts within each conservation authority and will render their work less effective.

Why are there no municipal staff on the boards? How would we ensure business and small developments in smaller communities would have their concerns addressed if there is no local representation in such a large group? This proposals will also unfairly target rural areas.
