Hello. I am strongly against the consolidation of the 36 regional conservation areas into 7 agencies. These areas provide important habitat for native species, act as systems of flood control and air purification, in addition to the recreation and tourism value they have. Read more

Hello! I'm in favour of speeding up the Conservation Authorities's review process by increasing provincial funding. They have the local expertise. Amalgamation would be counter-productive. Thank you for logging my response. Read more

I absolutely disagree with the changes being proposed to the conservation authorities. (CA) CA's have been a vital part of Ontario for more then 50 years protecting the province from the worst effects of the environment. Read more

” I am unconvinced merging the existing authorities into a handful of much larger authorities each which would encompass many more communities large and small could “ maintain and strengthen relationships with local communities and stakeholders”. Read more

I fear this is not a good plan. It will only remove the capabilities of necessary local conservation authorities and their abilities to provide important and life saving information regarding water levels, overland flooding and potential dangers to Ontarian's homes, livelihoods, and stability. This proposal is going to severely impact a lot of communities. Right now the conversation for certain regions are strained enough as it is to maintain its resources. How do they expect to have less coverage and maintain the same amount of work. Things are going to slip through the cracks. Read more

I believe consolidation is essential. We see so much duplication of services and the cost of operating these small authorities keeps rising, largely due to astronomical administrative staff/CAO salaries. What we currently get from our CA is minimal in protecting our environment and watersheds. Read more

1. These changes reduce local environmental decision-making. Right now, our local conservation authority (UTRCA) is guided by people from nearby towns who understand our watershed. Under the new plan, decisions would be made by a much larger, more distant agency. Read more

I do not feel that local control of our watersheds will be able to be maintained with this consolidation. I rely on my local CA for information on flooding and other issues. I remember the CA going above and beyond during our Foxboro floods a few years ago. Read more

The North Bay-Mattawa conservation authority needs major help and restructuring. Perhaps their boundaries are too large and flexible, but the management has made multiple public appeals after leaving their positions due to toxicity in the workplace. Read more

There are some areas where shared standards or tools could make things easier across conservation authorities, especially on the technical side. But a broad restructuring risks undoing decades of work, relationships and local knowledge that cannot be rebuilt once lost. Read more
