I am writing to strongly oppose Bill 5: the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act and its dangerous proposals, including the creation of Special Economic Zones, the weakening of Ontario’s endangered species protections, and the exemption of the Eagle’s Nest mine from an environmental review. This bill is detrimental to Indigenous rights and the environment as a whole. Imposing Bill 5 will harm the air that we breathe, the water that we drink, weaken protections against our most vulnerable species, and so much more. Read more

I oppose the proposed changes. Benefits to housing, transit and infrastructure should not come at the cost of cutting corners with the environment. I expect more from our elected officials and will vote accordingly in the next election should these changes be passed.

Sacrificing the protection of endangered species for the financial benefit of developers is obscene. This will not result in affordable housing and is frankly just another attempt, by a morally corrupt Premier, to help himself and his wealthy friends circumvent the law. Read more

I am appalled by Bill 5's proposals. The protection afforded to an endangered plant extends only as far as its root zone? I have to admit that I stopped there when I began reading the Act. Read more

Does Doug Ford not know (or care) that once a habitat is destroyed OR PAVED OVER, that you cannot get it back? If we (Ontario) are to grow more and more of our own food in the face of U.S. tariffs and unpredictable trade, the last thing we need is to reduce farmland. Read more

I have read through the proposed changes and think this will be very detrimental to protection of species at risk. I strongly oppose this. Developers need a clear process beyond “registration” to ensure their developments do not destroy sensitive ecosystems and habitats. Read more
