We are at the point in time where we need to prioritize environmental issues in order to provide a healthy habitat for our children and grandchildren. Unfortunately most politicians (including Mr. Ford) are very short sighted and only look to the very near term. Read more

I agree with HCA’s statement re ERO. Local is best in governance. Years of successful leadership and administration should not be undermined by a change. HCA has a proven track record. Why would anyone even think of re-inventing the wheel? Read more

This is a poorly thought of plan by a government who does not understand environmental pr regional differences in this province. If they think they will save money, they are wrong. And more important it is not always about money. An example is the decision to axe the LHINs. Read more

Anyone with a functioning brain knows what this will lead to. Cuts to provincial funding leading to fewer people left to oversee a much larger area, thus more problems result, and Doug and his billionaire high polluter buddies will get to pollute more. Read more

This consolidation of CA's is in my opinion, entirely counterproductive. The local CA's are responsible and responsive to municipalities as they are on the front lines and knowledgeable about local needs and concerns. Get big government out of the local needs of the people of Ontario. John Read more

My concern is that this amalgamation will cause conservation authorities to manage more land with less resources. Having less local representation to protect the natural areas of our province makes me concerned that some issues could start slipping through the cracks. Read more

I was a teacher for 30 years and went through the amalgamation of school boards! Look what happened to the Thames Valley District School Board. Bigger isn’t better and the smaller schools got forgotten! We need to keep our CA’s on a watershed basis or all the good they do and will do will be lost! Read more

I am writing to express my strong concerns regarding the proposed changes outlined in ERO Posting 025-1257. While I support efforts to streamline and improve conservation, it is critical that any changes do not compromise the essential work currently being done at the local level. Read more

I strongly disagree with the merger of the conservation authorities (CA). There is a strong need for local decision to be made, by a local conservation authority. If some CA’s are struggling then the province should support them as needed. They don’t need to amalgamate.

I have concerns with several aspects of this proposal. First, it allows the government to appoint the a centralized leadership / board for a "Ontario Provincial Conservation Agency" with the power to override local (or rather, regional), decisions. Read more

I have some concern about whether amalgamating conservation authorities is in fact a good idea. Talk of efficiency is fine, but Ontario is a large province and conservation authorities deal with local issues, which I think may be better dealt with locally. Read more

This proposed policy is concerning to residents and their respective CA areas for a number of reasons, first and foremost due to the lack of demonstrated need for restructuring of the conservation authorities. Read more
