I have concerns that this consolidation will not be as efficient as proposed. Amalgamations tend to alienate the smaller centres in the consolidated area. The larger centres in a consolidated area will receive more focus and therefore more funding. This could lead to less overall conservation. Read more

I completely agree with right sizing conservation authorities and reducing to 7 main offices. So often properties have to deal with 2 conservation authorities, the Niagara escarpment and tree belt and the city of Hamilton or Grimsby. The bureaucracy is insane and just over complicates issues. This government has not built trust with the public that they will prioritize the health of the environment and water. Consolidating conservation authorities feels like another effort to compromise our future in favour of urban sprawl and developers. Read more

The Thunder Bay district conservation authority should remain intact as it is and not subsumed under a southern Ontario authority. It already covers a large area quite distinct from Southern Ontario geography. Decisions on watersheds need to be made locally when timing is critical e.g. Read more

I am very concerned with this proposal as it is the latest action by the Ontario government to undermine the effectiveness and relevance of conservation authorities. Past changes to conservation authority mandates have challenged their survival. Read more

Seventy years ago when Hurricane Hazel hit, awareness was raised about the dangers of flooding. Conservation authorities have worked well since then to study the lay of the land and the flow of water in their own areas. People are informed of flooding risks before construction takes place. I believe amalgamating ERCA will save money. It is my hope that the current ERCA support staff will not lose their positions when/if amalgamation takes place and accommodation can be made to ensure continued employment. Read more

Like previous conservative forced municipal amalgamations, this will drive up costs which will be loaded onto ever increasing property taxes. Property owners and tenants cannot afford any more increases. Read more
