This proposal poses serious threats to the long-term protection of Wasaga Beach’s natural environment. Removing Nancy Island and large portions of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park from the PPCRA would strip these areas of the strongest legal safeguards currently in place for their ecological integrity. The transfer in question should not take place - the habitat in question is essential for Ontario's population of protected Piping Plovers, a species which is unprotected outside federal land in the province, and has faired poorly (meaning local extirpation) when greedy municipal governments are all Lire davantage

This is a truly horrible decision. The parks need to stay provincially funded. We need the protection of the province to protect the environment. What would happen to the Piping Plovers? What about the areas that are protected from tourists so the land can return to its natural state? Lire davantage

Provincial park land is to remain in the ownership of the public use not privatized. The benefits of the land are not to be transferred to private interests. Lire davantage

Parks are what makes our country beautiful. This land doesn’t belong to you, it belongs to all Canadians, including Indigenous peoples, who are the stewards of the land, and sovereign rights holders. Do they agree with your proposals? Lire davantage

Wasaga beach is known as a place where many migratory birds nest, including the endangered Piping Plover. Habitat has already been SO diminished for these species who rely on the most southern shores of Canada (Wasaga Beach, Point Pelee, Long Point) as key mating and nesting habitats. Lire davantage

Please note my complete rejection of this proposal, leave the parks alone. The only changes should include improved levels of investing in the parks through upgrades to facilities, intelligent maintenace, repairs, and improved staffing. Lire davantage

Parks and conservation areas are meant to remain natural and open for all, at minimal or no cost. The people of Ontario are not interested in developments which reduce or remove areas meant for people and animals. Lire davantage

Lands set aside as Provincial Parks are precious and scarce publicly owned natural resources. They are essentially non-renewable resources - once gone they are gone forever. Lire davantage

I am deeply opposed to and concerned by the Ontario Government's proposal to change the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act (PPCRA) to enable the transfer of the Wasaga Beach Provincial Park land to the Town of Wasaga Beach. Lire davantage

We need to keep all our Provincial Parks, not sever them off for development. Also the beach needs to be kept for the public and not have hotels that will make beaches private for their guests. This is going in the wrong direction. Lire davantage

Please please please don't turn over the beaches at Wasaga to the town. The park does a fantastic job of managing them. The town of Wasaga is growing at an astonishing rate and the last thing we need is to have more beachfront development. Lire davantage

I am totally opposed to this plan. Tourism at Wasaga will do just fine without this. Provincial parks are crucial.

These comments are on behalf of a family with residential roots and community engagement in the Town of Wasaga Beach going back 50 years. We applaud the overall good intentions of the Ontario government for our Town and support its initiative to restore Nancy Island. Lire davantage
