I write in strong opposition to ERO #025-0730, “Proposed changes to provide flexibility for water taking activities.” This proposal undermines the hard-won regulatory protections that exist to safeguard Ontario’s groundwater for the benefit of all peoples and ecosystems—not for corporate profiteerin Lire davantage

Water is for Life, Not Profit. Permits must not be transferable. Ontario’s current rules rightly require that a new owner must apply for a new Permit to Take Water (PTTW). This process ensures: · Environmental assessment of changing conditions; Lire davantage

Consent is not transferrable. Think of it in terms of relationships and it makes it crystal clear. It is not just the first time you gave consent so now it is always yes. It is not I gave consent to this person and they can pass that consent to others. Creepy right! Lire davantage

I propose that the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) immediately withdraw its Environmental Registry proposal 025-0730, which would allow water taking permits to become transferable assets. Lire davantage

Please do not change the rules about permits to take water. Each new owner must apply for a new permit! A regulator needs to check the percentage of water for water bottling the new owner already takes. This could be a monopoly. Lire davantage

How is water permit transfer honoring Canadians what with climate change and our country burning down at all fair? We can't just blanket, 'this company has priviledges forever' ideologies. First it will force corporations to look at R and D with a different lens, and force ingenuity. Lire davantage

I believe that all "taking water permits" should not be transferred when companies change hands or are sold. In fact, I believe all "taking water permits" should be cancelled as we are not completely sure just how much water is available in the aquifers. Lire davantage

I am strongly against allowing water taking permits to be transferrable. Environmental assessments are critical, and this will circumvent the environmental assessment process. Aquifers are not bottomless, but the greed of companies is.

Do not change the current regulation. Underground water is not an infinite ressource, far from it. How will you know how much water is left in a specific water table if you don't keep track of who is removing the water and how much? Lire davantage

Water is a finite resource. Ground water, being out of sight, especially needs to be monitored particularly in times of drought and particularly because recharge areas for aquifers are being degraded by loss of wetlands and development. To fail to recognise these facts is gross negligence. Lire davantage

I am NOT in support of making these changes to the water -taking application process. Clean water is not limitless and with the climate crisis happening it is even more critical to evaluate carefully each application to take water. Lire davantage

Water is life and I fundamentally oppose the proposed changes to water taking permits. If a new ownership group comes in, that is the ideal time to ensure what is being permitted is sustainable. Look at the state of water rights in the southwest of the USA. Lire davantage
