I am writing to express my strong opposition to Schedule 5 of Bill 60, which proposes amendments to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) that would prohibit municipalities from reducing motor vehicle lanes when installing, implementing, or marking new bicycle lanes. Lire davantage

One of the great things about the current government is that it is actively trying to promote change that helps people. Lire davantage

I strongly opposed this bill for several reasons. This bill enshrines that roads are for the purpose of moving cars only - this should not, and has never been the case for any city. Lire davantage

Most streets will be entirely unable to install bike lanes in the areas they would be most beneficial, because there is nowhere to add them unless streets are widened. We cannot do that with buildings there, or by removing sidewalks. Lire davantage

Why are we passing laws with vague rules that just creates duplication between municipal governments and provincial priorities? This will create red tape as every decision now needs to be approved twice. Lire davantage

This bill is terrible because it significantly decreases road safety. Please reconsider this bill! We cannot have pedestrians, cyclists, children, elderly, or disabled keep dying because of increased vehicle traffic and speeds. Reverse this bill please.

It strips cities of local authority and decision-making, even when projects are supported by evidence and local residents. It will worsen traffic congestion, not reduce it. The government’s own experts have consistently said that bike lanes are not a cause of gridlock. Lire davantage

Bill 60 proposes to prohibit municipalities from reducing motor vehicle lanes for new bike lanes or other purposes (to be defined by regulation). This follows 2024’s Bill 212 changes to constrain local bike lane decisions, which I oppose. Lire davantage

Please do not get rid of bicycle lanes. I do not drive, but I do ride bicycles. I have been hit by unobservant drivers three times now, and have had numerous close calls. Lire davantage

The Town of Oakville seeks clarity on whether the prohibition applies to other forms of active transportation infrastructure, such as multi-use paths and trails, which may similarly require lane reallocation or adjustments to the roadway. Lire davantage

"If the new omnibus bill becomes law, corporate interests will succeed in setting every city in Ontario back by a decade: more cyclists and pedestrians will be killed by cars, and more carbon emitted on our roads will intensify climate change. Lire davantage

I oppose Bill 60 because it will increase homelessness which is already at a crisis level. Making it easier for landlords to raise rents and evict people is the opposite of what is needed. Lire davantage

I am not a cyclist in the city, I am a driver. I 100% support keeping and adding bike lanes to encourage more cycling, and keeping cyclists safe. Do I love more traffic? No. Lire davantage
