I would like to add my voice those expressing surprise at the absolutely bizarre proposal to combine the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority with several conservation authorities thousands of km away on Lake Huron. This make absolutely no sense. Leave the LRCA by itself.
A resident of London Ontario, my family and I are against this proposal. Leave the conservation zones in their respective districts and do not consolidate.
Without knowing the full scope of the Minister's plan to consolidate the conservation authorities in Ontario into fewer bodies, it is important to note the following:

It is absurd to imagine an amalgamation of the LRCA with a southern Ontario group. Ours is an incredibly successful, progressive, knowledgeable organization that is dedicated to the support, development, and improvement of Northwestern Ontario interests.

I understand what you are trying to do but this is a short-sighted and highly GTA-centric plan. Our Great Lakes are one of the most important resources we, as Canadians have, and this plan minimizes their current and future value.

This proposition will not only be detrimental to local conservation, but actually so dangerous to public safety.
Conservation authorities manage waterways, and floodplains. By reducing their capacity (just to build houses where houses should NOT be built!!) is so short sighted.

I am vehemently opposed to the amalgamation of conservation authorities. Under the existing organization local authorities can focus on the needs of the land and its natural flora and fauna.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment, although as a taxpayer, this is a basic right. I question the speed and transparency of this Conservation Authority consolidation process.

A local small watershed conservation authority is so important because it helps protect the natural spaces we rely on every day, our streams, wetlands, and the water that flows through our communities.

Any benefits from shared resources will be moot due to ineffective implementation caused by bureaucrats and misunderstanding. To many middle men and the urgency, caring and understanding will be lost through all the channels created by government.

7 CA’s is too extreme. The NPCA needs to maintain it’s own jurisdiction. Niagara has too much biodiversity, unique watercourses and we need to keeo all of our existing greenspace. We learned the hard way during COVID, the entire GTA came to niagara and the parks were over run.

This idea of amalgamating Conservation Authorities is a terrible idea. Google Hurricane Hazel and its devastating effects on Toronto that killed residents due to poor flood plain protections that allowed homes to be built in dangerous areas.

I oppose the merging of conservation authorities. It's very important that the very local aspect of these authorities be maintained both from a human labour perspective and from an environmental understanding and protection perspective.

Amalgamation is Not a good idea. Each conservation is unique and should be managed individually.
Large conglomerations never work; blanket planning doesn’t work; cookie cutter management is not wise.

This makes absolutely no sense for the LRCA in the District of Thunder Bay. I am a supporter of the LRCA and have volunteered for several of their endeavors. They do great work here in the north. Vast distances preclude lumping us in with the south. Please reconsider.
Restructuring the conservation authority threatens to erode the oversight of watershed management, water resource protection, habitat and biodiversity conservation, and numerous other aspects of maintaining a healthy environment.
