Amalgamating Ontario’s conservation authorities is a terrible idea and would essentially weaken the province’s watershed-based approach to environmental management. Lire davantage

I have concerns that this consolidation will not be as efficient as proposed. Amalgamations tend to alienate the smaller centres in the consolidated area. The larger centres in a consolidated area will receive more focus and therefore more funding. This could lead to less overall conservation. Lire davantage

While I recognize the government's objective to enhance consistency and efficiency across Ontario’s Conservation Authorities (CAs), the proposed consolidation of 36 CAs into seven regional bodies risks fundamentally undermining the technical capacity and regulatory speed that the current, locally-ba Lire davantage

I completely agree with right sizing conservation authorities and reducing to 7 main offices. So often properties have to deal with 2 conservation authorities, the Niagara escarpment and tree belt and the city of Hamilton or Grimsby. The bureaucracy is insane and just over complicates issues. Please! Do not consolidate the Conservation Authorities! The only hope we have to prevent even more soaring electrical bills, erosion, illness etc is for local Authorities to protect and support the areas in which they are expert. Lire davantage

This government has not built trust with the public that they will prioritize the health of the environment and water. Consolidating conservation authorities feels like another effort to compromise our future in favour of urban sprawl and developers. Lire davantage

The Thunder Bay district conservation authority should remain intact as it is and not subsumed under a southern Ontario authority. It already covers a large area quite distinct from Southern Ontario geography. Decisions on watersheds need to be made locally when timing is critical e.g. Lire davantage

I am against this amalgamation. Local issues are at the heart of conservation efforts. Sometimes hyper local. Please leave this expertise to local conservation authorities.

The watershed of each unique area is brought into question here. The proposed amalgamation makes no promise to increase the monitering of quality and protection of the innumerable, nuanced, and vulnerable locations that recharge watersheds for the prosperity of local populations. Lire davantage

I am very concerned with this proposal as it is the latest action by the Ontario government to undermine the effectiveness and relevance of conservation authorities. Past changes to conservation authority mandates have challenged their survival. Lire davantage

Seventy years ago when Hurricane Hazel hit, awareness was raised about the dangers of flooding. Conservation authorities have worked well since then to study the lay of the land and the flow of water in their own areas. People are informed of flooding risks before construction takes place. I believe amalgamating ERCA will save money. It is my hope that the current ERCA support staff will not lose their positions when/if amalgamation takes place and accommodation can be made to ensure continued employment. Lire davantage

Like previous conservative forced municipal amalgamations, this will drive up costs which will be loaded onto ever increasing property taxes. Property owners and tenants cannot afford any more increases. Lire davantage

I believe that the conglomiration would help align values with hopes that conservation would align across one jurisdiction with common goals. These new districts are a reasonable amalgomation. Lire davantage
