Algoma Steel is taking an extraordinary step in reducing emissions with the transition to Electric Arc Furnaces. In North America we need to produce our own steel. Do you want to be in a Military Conflict with Russia and have to depend on China for your steel ? Lire davantage

My husband and I have lived in our home for over fifty years. The last four years we’ve been dealing with noise issues from the steel plant that have driven us in desperation to basically live in our basement! Lire davantage

The steel plant is directly behind my house, and there are days where the wind blows in just the right direction that I CANNOT go outside due to the stench that burns my entire respiratory tract. Lire davantage

These past 2 years has been in my opinion worse for air pollution than previous from Algoma Steel. It is SO bad @ times I cannot open my windows..the smell is “putrid & sickening”! It does not matter what time of day..some days it last most of day. Lire davantage

Have a close looks at both #7 blast furnace and coke making as a whole. The rest of the steel plant can almost be widely ignored. With the commissioning of the EAF, less and less money and time have been spent on these departments. Lire davantage

As a retired supervisor and local 2724 executive I have extensive knowledge of the steelmaking process. Living in close proximity to the plant I have a birds eye view of the emissions almost daily. I have noticed an increase in pollution especially concerning the coke ovens. Lire davantage

In the recent past we have observed much more air pollution(black and brown) than ever before in the past 55 years. Although living in the far East end of town we can still smell the coke gas emissions at times. This affects our physical and mental health as we know this causes cancer. Lire davantage

As a retired steelworker and resident nearby in Bayview for over forty years, I fully support Algoma’s transition to EAF production of Steel products. In my opinion Algoma has been a very careful pollution producer and used every protective safety measure possible in their manufacture of Steel. Lire davantage

I cannot believe that they are allowing another polluting facility to be built so close to the one that has killed and sickened thousands of local workers and residents of Sault Ste. Lire davantage

The air pollution from the steel plant is brutal. I have a white car and it is always covered with black ash from the pollution from the plant. The residents of this community are breathing this every day. I have heard that cancer rates in this community are very high. Lire davantage

There should be NO grace period for Algoma Steel to bypass the provincial regulations on emissions to our community that are harmful and cancer causing. There are already enough significant risks and harmful side effects to the residents in Sault Ste. Marie because of Algoma Steel. Lire davantage

I am repliying as a cancer survivor. It was my understanding that this new plant was going to be quieter with less pollution. I am finding that at night the noise of the plant is very loud . I live on top the hill and find the plant wakes me up at night.( is the new plant going to be louder)? Lire davantage

To those concerned. I have lived in the close proximity area of the Steel Plant for over 50 years. It had always been a non- issue for pollution and very few furnace blowups.. Since Essar took over and now the construction of the Arc Furnace, the air has become I’m sure more toxic. Lire davantage
